Lela JonesArt Form(s):
I specialize in the conversation between evolving traditional and contemporary movement and music cultures in the Black Diaspora. My facilitation style is informed by my grounding as a native of the US, my nomadic lineage, and my mother’s southern downhome-ness tied closely to my father’s urban street grace.
A Tallahassee, Florida native who resides in Philadelphia, PA, Lela Aisha Jones has facilitated lectures, residencies, choreography and collaborative projects at Bennington College VT, California State University SB, Texas Woman’s University, Pinelands Creative Workshop Barbados, Sankofa Center for African Dance and Culture Ghana and L’Ecole Des Sables Senegal. She facilitates youth arts residencies in collaboration with Live Connections.org (a partner of World Café Live), Arts In Education New Jersey and Young Audiences New Jersey. Lela is the artistic conceptualist, founder and director of FlyGround (www.flygroundera.com) and she has recently become a faculty member at the University of the Arts.
