YA ArtsCorps is an arts-based summer job for high school students designed to develop 21st Century skills for the workplace through apprenticeships in the arts. Students are hired to work in a small group called a co-op, under the guidance of a professional master teaching artist.

YA is proud to offer this paid summer arts job opportunity to students residing in Hoboken or Jersey City, NJ entering 10th, 11th and 12th grade. Ten student apprentices will be hired to:

  • earn a wage
  • gain valuable workforce skills
  • prepare for higher education
  • find your unique voice to create individual art

This summer ArtSCorps will focus on digital photography. Apprentices in the co-op will work with professional photographer, William Ortega, to learn about digital photography and Photoshop, create a group community project and develop a portfolio of their own work. One day each week they will participate in workshops that reinforce educational, work, and life skills delivered by guest speakers. Apprentices develop resumes and portfolios for college applications or for seeking future employment. There will be an open house prior to the start of the program for parents and apprentices as well as a culminating event to share the work that was created during the program. All ArtsCorpssummer apprentices will leave the program with a portfolio documenting their work, which they are encouraged to share with future employers or schools.

YA ArtsCorps is currently open to students residing in Hoboken and Jersey City and will take place Monday-Friday, July 14-August 15 from 9:30am to 3:30pm at Hopes Cap, Inc. located at 301 Garden Street, Hoboken.

Hired apprentices work 30 hours a week for five weeks and are paid New Jersey’s minimum wage. Apprentices must demonstrate professionalism, punctuality, and commitment or risk dismissal.
