In Wheat Weaving, master weaver Linda Beiler helps students explore the history, technique and art of wheat weaving around the world. A member of the PA Guild of Craftsmen, Linda reveals how contemporary straw artists have turned an ancient craft into a unique art form. Students learn how to braid wheat, and work on individual and group weaving projects.
The sphere pictured above was made by grades 1 & 2 at a school. They made paper from wheat straw, cut the handmade paper into shapes, skewered and assembled into this sphere. The sphere is permanently installed in one of their stairways.
