START YOUR WEEK WITH ART!

Welcome to week seven of our new weekly artist video series – Arts Connection! We are on a mission to have our talented YA Teaching Artists continue to be a BRIGHT SPOT in every child’s day!

Every Monday we’ll be sharing our extraordinary teaching artists in action so  children across the region can stay CONNECTED to and INSPIRED by the arts while learning remotely.

We encourage you to share these interactive video performances with the students, educators, and families in your school community.

AATMA PERFORNING ARTS
Colors of India focuses on the explosive rhythms found in Indian classical and folk dance, which eventually gave rise to the globally recognized Bollywood dance and music of today. Students learn about the diverse cultures of India in this immersive demonstration of the extraordinary transition that Indian dance has made from the colorful villages of India to the vibrant streets of Mumbai.
LEARNING GOALS
Students will:
☀️Be exposed to a classical music and dance form that is over 5,000 years old.
☀️See and experience the evolution of Indian dance from temple and folk dances to the more modern form of dance known as Bollywood.
☀️Learn new rhythms and participate through clapping.

Yearning to Learn
When a child tells his aunt about a bully on his bus, she gives him advice by recounting the tale of Rosa Parks and the events that led to a revolution in racial justice. This poignant Yearning to Learn production includes many songs of the Civil Rights era and brings this historical time to life. Through this exploration of the Civil Rights Era, students learn how individuals can work together to fight injustice and oppression.
LEARNING GOALS
Students will:
☀️Understand the hardships and oppression that black Americans faced during the civil rights movement
☀️Learn about Rosa Parks and Martin Luther King, Jr. who were pivotal in the civil rights movement
☀️Experience the rich song culture that was so important to the civil rights struggle
