Assemblywoman Andrea Katz and YA President & CEO Michele Russo write an op-ed about the power of arts education to improve student social and emotional well-being

Princeton, NJ. March 30—Assemblywoman Andrea Katz (NJ District 8) and YA President & CEO Michele Russo co-wrote the op-ed “In uncertain times, arts education matters more than ever for N.J.’s children.” In District 8, arts education is playing an important role in school culture, student well-being, and teacher professional development.

Recognizing the essential role arts education plays in supporting both academic achievement and personal development, Assemblywoman Andrea Katz recently introduced A-2773, which would support these efforts by creating a new funding opportunity for schools to start or supplement their arts education programs.

While there is no single solution to the many challenges students are facing right now, participation in arts education has been proven to improve students’ social and emotional well-being and foster more inclusive school communities.
