Introducing Chinese Calligraphy
Description
This workshop and residency will introduce Chinese culture, calligraphy and tools for study of Calligraphy. Each student will make a UNIQUE work of art – create Chinese calligraphy and decorate it on a fan or scroll with the Chinese decorative pattern. Through the process of making an art, the student will understand that Chinese calligraphy is Oriental Art, it is a medium to express their emotions as well as an experience of self-discovery. Students will learn how to be appreciated and respected as individual artists.
Different Lengths and Fees for the Program:
Stand-Alone Workshop: a one-day workshop (up to 4 classes in a day)
- Introduce Chinese Calligraphy and the tools – ink, ink-stone, rice-paper, brush.
- Students get hands-on experience with Calligraphy.
- Workshop Materials Fee: $3 each student
3-5 days Residency: Introducing Chinese calligraphy and tools
- Students will experience brush movement with individual emotions.
- Students will create a ‘Chinese Dragon’ calligraphy.
- Students will mount their Calligraphy into a Chinese Fan or Scroll.
- They will make their calligraphy a complete piece of Calligraphy-artwork to be displayed to other classes and the school community.
- Workshop Materials Fee: $5-$6 each student.
Note: Artist will need her own classroom with a sink (art, science room, or near by the room has a sink). She has many tools, examples and Chinese inspiration to display and organize, the students would come to her classroom.

Technical Requirements
Art-room or science-room with a sink. Need 7 large tables size at lest 30’’ W x 60” Long* * Classes will come to the artist, because she will layout tools (Ink, rice paper, Chinese brush, water containers and stamps…) on a large table, and she will hang some Chinese calligraphy and Chinese pattern samples for demonstration and inspiration.
