Box of Light
All of Box of Light’s assemblies come with a Creative Classroom Toolkit
Burble, Fizz, Kaboom
In this playful performance, Rand Whipple combines chemical reactions, solutions, molecules, and phase changes with a great sense of humor, and with a lot of help from the audience! This program is a fun and informative introduction to science that gets students actively involved in the basics of chemistry while creating a good clean mess!
Grades: K-5
Assembly Price: $805
Two-in-a-Row: $1,160
Using the format of Box of Light’s humorous theatrical science shows, this program looks at water as a molecule. Students explore the way water transforms, moves, carries good things and bad, and basically sustains all life on earth. The performance is dripping with audience participation and student helpers become Knights and Ladies of the Aquifer (basically, they get hit on the head with a wet sponge).
Grades: K-5
Assembly Price: $805
Two-in-a-Row: $1,160
Box of Light brings their one-of-a-kind teaching artistry to this powerful presentation! It’s a hair-raising look at electrons, currents, conductors, and insulators. Every demonstration uses children from the audience and every concept demonstrated builds upon the one before. ZAP! is fun, fast, and absolutely shocking!

Science Heroes
Experiment with Adventure
Join Science Heroes as we experiment with adventure! In this exciting STEM assembly, we’ll explore physical and chemical changes, the laws of motion, air pressure, and more! Volunteers will help conduct some of our biggest and most exciting experiments as the whole audience gets involved in changing variables and making predictions. Bring your whole school together and discover how YOU can use science to make the world a better place!
Grades: PreK-5
Assembly Price: $650

Workshops*

Laura Marchese
Science Can Dance!
Science and the natural world come to life through this engaging creative movement experience with Laura Marchese. Students explore and move based on classroom topics while practicing critical thinking skills, creative problem solving, and cooperative sharing of ideas in an environment that values each members’ contribution to the creative process. Topics can include the water cycle, the solar system, ecosystems and habitats, the life cycle of the butterfly, or classroom-specific choices.
Grades: PreK-5
Workshop Cost Per Day: $705

Alice Leon
Making Math Musical
In this interactive and energetic program, students brainstorm and contribute to “hit” songs that reinforce curriculum concepts. Students will learn the basics of songwriting and will write songs and digitally record their song in a real studio setting.
After the song is recorded they will create music videos from their original songs using green screens and stop animation.
Each workshop or residency is individually designed to support classroom learning and meet the unique needs of students and teachers.
Grades: K-6
Workshop Cost Per Day: $600
Molly Gaston Johnson
Fun with Fractions: Math is Beautiful
Connections to world cultures are made to demonstrate that math has been at the foundation of art and culture for millennia, and students learn more in-depth about conceptual art and the work of Sol Lewitt. Students connect this creative experience to real-world applications of the imagination, learning the importance of precision within the scope of creativity. Projects can inspire group challenges and large scale temporary or permanent murals.
Other themes also available.
Grades: 2-5
Workshop Cost Per Day: $600

Play Pattern
Program Description for K-2:
This workshop will guide participants to build a robot and learn how to program a robot. This workshop is great for young children to begin robotic and computational thinking. Robots will light up, move, dance and challenge our ideas of who robots make an impact in our lives. The projects are always innovative and a blast to build!
Program Description for 3-8:
This series of workshops teach the basics of robotics. Students will learn about four key topics related to technology and art. We cover beginning concepts of coding (loops and variables) in the environment of the MIT Scratch program. We also learn about engineering and physical computing for robotic machines. We use an emerging technology –the BBC Micro:Bit. Students also learned about creating a few simple electronic systems – with motors and led lights. Finally, students learn to discuss and analyze the use of technology by artists.
Grades: K-2 and 3-8
Workshop Cost Per Day: $640
Materials Fee: $3/s
*All workshops have a travel fee of $95/day.
