Steppin’ & Stompin’: Ireland in Dance & Song
Trace the lineage of Irish dance from its traditional role in 18th-century Ireland to its success on the international stage with Darrah Carr Dance Company.
Program Type: Assembly Performances
World Champion Irish dancers Darrah Carr and Niall O’Leary have graced stages across the country and around the world. Recent performance highlights include NBC’s “The Today Show,” a guest appearance with the New York Pops at Carnegie Hall, Disneyworld, and Japan’s Osaka Festival Hall. They are the featured performers in Absolutely Irish a PBS documentary directed by Academy Award winner Paul Wagner. The New York Times notes, “Darrah Carr is a smiling, exuberant performer with an open upper torso and fast flying feet straight out of Irish step dancing….She has a terrific chemistry with her longtime partner, Niall O’Leary.”
I am dedicated to providing a high-quality arts-in-education program for your students by using Irish dance as a teaching tool to illuminate the dance’s connection to Irish society, history, and related art forms. Students also benefit from the musical talents of fellow Irish dancer, Niall O’Leary, who enlivens performances and educational demonstrations with traditional spoon playing and accordion tunes.
