I’m Aidan Martinez, an actor, director, and teaching artist based in New York City. Born and raised in Seguin, Texas, I’ve been performing since I was six years old. Many of my earliest experiences with theatre came through theater programs, community stages, and summer camps, and those experiences helped shape who I am as an artist and educator today.
As a teaching artist, I believe theatre has the power to transform the way young people see themselves and the world around them. I use acting as a way to help students build confidence, find their voice, take creative risks, and step outside of their comfort zones in a supportive and playful environment. Through improv, theatre games, character development, stage terminology, storytelling, scriptwriting, movement, and performance, I encourage students to discover what they are capable of both onstage and in everyday life.
My teaching philosophy is rooted in the belief that theatre is about so much more than performing. It teaches us how to communicate, collaborate, trust ourselves, take up space, and connect with others. My classrooms are student-centered and collaborative, giving students the opportunity to create original work and take ownership of their artistic process while I guide, encourage, and help bring their ideas to life.
I love creating theatre experiences that allow students to be silly, curious, expressive, and unapologetically themselves. Whether we are improvising a scene, developing a character, writing an original script, learning choreography, or preparing for a performance, I encourage students to take bold risks and support one another along the way. I’m especially interested in helping students discover that the confidence they build onstage can carry into every part of their lives.
While acting is at the heart of my teaching, I also enjoy incorporating elements of musical theatre, movement, and performance into the classroom and collaborating with other teaching artists to create well-rounded theatre experiences. Ultimately, my goal is to help young people find their voice, trust their instincts, and discover the joy of creating something together.
