Artist Bio

Hyun Jin Cha is a percussionist, singer, educator and cultural worker.

Since beginning her musical journey in 1998, she has participated in numerous international concerts, festivals, and collaborations. After moving to the United States in 2017, she has been dedicated to teaching traditional Korean music. Her music is rooted in “Pung-mul” (traditional percussion ensemble), “Min-yo” (folk songs), “Chuk-jae” (festivals), and “Mu-sok” (Shamanistic rituals). She is also the artistic director of URIOL(우리얼), a Korean percussion ensemble based in Philadelphia. Her performances are a passionate musical expression of the distinct rhythms and voices of Korea.
