ARTS CONNECTION Video Series Week 6 – Mexico Beyond Mariachi & Queen Nur’s Story SELabration!
A BRIGHT SPOT IN EVERY CHILD’S DAY
WEEK 6 ARTIST SPOTLIGHTS
START YOUR WEEK WITH ART!
Welcome to week six of our new weekly artist video series – Arts Connection! We are on a mission to have our talented YA Teaching Artists continue to be a BRIGHT SPOT in every child’s day!
Every Monday we’ll be sharing our extraordinary teaching artists in action so children across the region can stay CONNECTED to and INSPIRED by the arts while learning remotely.
We encourage you to share these interactive video performances with the students, educators, and families in your school community.
Entertaining, educational, and exciting, the Mexico Beyond Mariachi experience ignites the imagination. Expand your students’ perceptions of Mexico through the artists’ use of pre-colonial instruments and traditional interpretations of music and dance. Students learn how native cultures and Spanish culture combined to create a unique Mexican culture of music, dance, and costuming. Students come away with a fresh and authentic perspective of Mexican culture.
LEARNING GOALS
Students will:
☀️Learn about the history and culture of Mexico, from the ancient Mexican Indians to the folk traditions of present-day Mexico.
☀️Be able to recognize the influence that geography has on cultures and traditions.

In this interactive program, Queen Nur embraces Social Emotional Learning through storytelling. Using folktales and original stories from around the world, the audience participates in call and response stories that teach self-awareness, social awareness, relationship skills, and responsible decision-making.

Students will:
☀️Hear Queen Nur share two stories, The Empty Pot and Sangoel.
☀️Participate in call and response and sing along
☀️Relate to characters and identify positive character traits
