A Journey Through Latin Percussion

Artist: Samba to Salsa

Type: Assembly Performances

Celebrate the traditions of Latin percussion with this display of Samba to Salsa’s syncopated sounds and powerful rhythms. On this trip through the origins, history, and classic rhythms of samba, salsa, and more, the audience engages in collaborative ensemble exercises to explore these community-based traditions. Students connect to the music and culture of the Caribbean and South America and gain a better understanding and appreciation for the depth and variety of the Latin percussion traditions that keep us dancing.

This assembly comes with a Creative Classroom Toolkit! The Creative Classroom Toolkit is a collection of innovative educational tools that extend your in-school performances into a series of engaging, curriculum-based lessons. Included in the toolkit are artist videos, activity videos and an educator’s guide. Contents are delivered digitally after scheduling a Samba to Salsa assembly.

“We absolutely LOVED working with Andres from Young Audiences! He's an amazing educator. Our 4th-6th grade students were engaged from start to finish. They loved working with the instruments and learning about music from other cultures. The finale performance by 'From Samba to Salsa' was amazing. The group had everyone on their feet and clapping along. We highly recommend this experience.”

“The three performers were incredibly talented and fantastic musicians. But even more impressive was their engagement with the students. They had good control of the large group, they had fantastic pacing, a nice variety of activities for the students to do, and positive, warm way of speaking to the students.”
