Stitch a Symbol: Expressing Identity Through Fabric
Description
Students will work with burlap fabric stretched on embroidery hoops to stitch a simple symbol. This symbol will be chosen to represent each student’s identity, culture, or favorite activity, allowing for personal expression through textile art.
The program will also feature an introduction to the work of Bisa Butler, an acclaimed textile artist from New Jersey. Butler is renowned for transforming traditional quilting into fine art, creating vibrant, life-sized quilted portraits that celebrate Black life.
