This workshop provides K–12 teachers with practical strategies to strengthen teaching and learning in drawing. Teachers will explore a variety of media, emphasizing observation, visual perception, imagination, individual expression, and critique. Historic and contemporary examples of drawing — including style, media, technique, and content — are examined in relation to students’ lives and experiences.
Drawing topics may include portrait, self-portrait, landscape, still-life, found object, interior, exterior, and abstraction, adapted to grade level and cultural background. Elements of Art and Principles of Design are reinforced, giving teachers tools to create meaningful, student-centered learning experiences.
