Description

Learning About LGTBQ+ & Gender Identity through the Arts is an inclusive arts exploration of topics within LGBTQ+ issues. Topics include terminology, gender identity, intersectionality, discrimination, and queer liberation movements. The workshops will utilize experiential and discussion-based learning methods. Examples of methods used include Theatre of the Oppressed, storytelling, creative writing, and devised theatre techniques. Students will use these learning methods to dismantle myths, increase their sense of identity, and foster a culture of respect, understanding, and solidarity.

This residency is designed to fulfill a statewide mandate in New Jersey that requires public schools to implement LGBTQ+ inclusive curricula that highlight the historical, political, economic, and social contributions of LGBTQ+ individuals.
