From Africa to Brazil – The Afro Brazilian Folkloric Show
Artist: Afro Brazilian Cultural Center of NJ
Type: Performances / Assembly
Program Availability: In-Person
Description
The ensemble brings the rich African influenced rhythms and dances originating in Salvador, Bahia, Brazil, a region known for customs deeply rooted in the traditions and spirituality of ancestral Africa. Our ensemble tells the story of Africans brought to Brazil as slaves. To alleviate the suffering and preserve their identity they maintained their rituals, dances and fighting arts that gradually became part of the culture of Brazil. Our troupe of dancers, musicians, and singers perform a repertory based on the folkloric dances of African origin and includes Capoeira (a martial art disguised as a dance), Samba and Maculêlê that celebrate the Afro-Brazilian spirit. The ensemble presents Brazil’s most important cultural manifestations under a contemporary theatrical vision that reflects its magnificent origins.
North of Trenton only.
