Description

Using vocal and songwriting techniques rooted in the traditions of Soul Music, students will learn how to express and celebrate themselves through song. In this workshop, participants will learn about soul music pioneers from the 1970’s, the genre’s historical roots and its ties to the African-American fight for civil rights. They’ll also see soul’s impact on American culture today and create their own soul music for this generation and beyond, using their individual and collective voices.

Technical Requirements

Keyboard or acoustic piano, microphone with boom mic stand, smartboard or large projection screen. PA system or speaker output (for piano, mic and smartboard) plus needed cabling and power. Internet/wifi connection. Smartboard/projector required, must be provided by venue. Carl can bring in his own keyboard for $50 equipment fee, full equipment set for $75. Using choir rooms or a stage is possible. Can be done in a regular classroom as well.
