Wood Scrap Art for Learning
Description
This hands-on workshop will inspire and equip educators to incorporate wood scrap sculpture into their teaching. Participants will explore creative ways to use repurposed wood as a versatile material to support learning across multiple subject areas, including Literacy, Math, Science, and Social Studies.
Through guided activities, teachers will discover how wood scrap can foster student engagement, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills. The workshop will emphasize the use of open-ended questioning to promote higher-level thinking and highlight the connections between visual art, close observation, and core academic subjects.
Rooted in arts integration principles and the 8 Studio Habits of Mind developed at Harvard University, this session will provide practical strategies for implementing wood scrap projects with minimal resources. Teachers will leave with hands-on experience, adaptable lesson ideas, and tools to create an arts-rich learning environment that inspires creativity, exploration, and cross-curricular connections.
