Introducing Chinese Calligraphy

Artist: Hua Hua Zhang

Type: Workshops / Residencies

Chinese Calligraphy is a treasured art form that holds a distinguished place in traditional Chinese culture, blending language, history, and visual expression. In this engaging program, the artist introduces students to the beauty and expressive potential of calligraphy, demonstrating that anyone can use a brush to create characters that reflect their thoughts and feelings. Students discover that calligraphy is not only a means of communication, but also an aesthetic expression of the inner world, shaped by centuries of tradition and artistic refinement. Each participant creates a unique work of art, designing their own Chinese calligraphy piece and decorating it on a fan or scroll with traditional Chinese patterns.

Note: Artist will need her own classroom with a sink.

“This program was not only well done from an artistic perspective but the artist shared so much of the Chinese culture with the students. More than a few students came to a faculty member to say how much he/she enjoyed the program. It was wonderful.”
