ADVOCACY AT YOUNG AUDIENCES
At Young Audiences we believe that the arts play an essential role in children’s lives and in education. Our Board of Trustees and staff are passionate about advocating for arts education. YA has developed arts advocacy campaigns and initiatives to grow awareness of the value and importance of arts education.
- Arts Champions Award Program, an initiative to celebrate and recognize excellence, innovation, and creativity in arts education, presented yearly to teaching artists, schools, organizations, educators and students that demonstrate passion and dedication to the arts;
- #ArtsMatterYA, an advocacy campaign consisting of a series of video clips shared on social media by staff, trustees, volunteers, and arts education stewards about why the arts matter;
- Arts Advocacy Pledge, a call to action, written by a teaching artist, that encourages active support of arts education for children;
- Arts Matter To Me! a campaign to collect testimonials on YA postcards sharing the value of arts education from parents, educators, and students that are mailed to local legislators.

Young Audiences Arts for Learning Week (YA Week)
Young Audiences Arts for Learning Week (YA Week) is an annual advocacy and awareness initiative when the YA Network works collectively to shine a light on the importance of arts-in-education.
First championed in 1971 by conductor Leonard Bernstein, YA Week is observed across the YA network to raise national and local awareness about arts-in-education initiatives through public performances, special events, and other programs. YA Week is a opportunity to showcase to the network's Congressional stakeholders the great work being carried out in their districts. Individual supporters of YA and the arts can also celebrate YA Week by contacting local legislators about the importance of arts-in-education and showing support for the arts on social media with #YAweek.
